Difference Between Invites and Push Notifications on Main Court
Invites
Invites are used to invite players to matches, events, or tournaments. They are delivered in three ways:
Push Notification: Invites are sent as push notifications to your device. A push notification is a real-time alert that pops up on your device's home screen or notification center, even when the app is closed.
In-App Notification: Invites also appear as an Invite within the Notification (bell) section of Main Court.
Email: Invites are also sent to the email address associated with the player’s Main Court account.
Players can view, accept, or decline invites directly from the notification, within the app, or through their email.
To receive match invites, ensure that your Invite Toggle within the Notification settings in the app is set to ON. You can still receive invites even if general Push Notifications are turned off on your device. However, the reverse is not true—you won’t receive match invites if your Invite Toggle is OFF, even if push notifications are enabled. For more details, refer to the help file titled Not Receiving Invites from Players in Main Court.
Push Notifications
Push notifications alert users of updates or activities, such as match invites or events that match their skill level.
Push notifications are general alerts, while invites are specific and actionable.
Push notifications are temporary and visible on your device until dismissed, while invites remain accessible within the app in the Notification (bell) section.
You can toggle push notifications in your phone’s settings to control how alerts are displayed.
Persistent vs Temporary Notifications
Persistent notifications remain visible in your notification center on your phone until you manually dismiss them. This ensures you get all important updates and invites.
Temporary notifications appear briefly on your screen and then disappear. They may not stay visible in your notification center, which could result in missing important updates if you don’t check the app immediately.
How to Ensure Notifications Are Enabled
For iPhone:
- Open your iPhone’s Settings.
- Scroll down and select Main Court from the list of apps.
- Tap Notifications and ensure that Allow Notifications is toggled ON.
- Under Alert Style, select Persistent to keep notifications visible until you dismiss them.
- Toggle Sounds and Badges ON for additional visibility.
For Android:
- Open your phone’s Settings.
- Go to Apps or App Management (varies by device).
- Find and select Main Court from the list of apps.
- Tap Notifications and ensure they are set to ON.
- Choose Always Allow Notifications to ensure alerts appear even when the app is closed.
- Select Persistent Notifications under the notification settings (if available on your device) for enhanced visibility.
Recommendation
Enable both Push Notifications and Invites in your settings for the best experience. Using persistent notifications is highly recommended to make sure to get all important updates and invites.
